The short version. Victoria Park on High Street in Kew is a large City of Boroondara parkland where the off-leash zones sit on the ovals. It is open, grassy and framed by mature trees, giving dogs real room to stretch out - with the catch that the ovals are shared with community sport.
The rules. Dogs are off-leash only within the designated oval boundaries and must be on-lead everywhere else in the park. You need effective voice or hand control and a lead on you at all times. Clean up after your dog, and keep clear of children's playgrounds, barbecue areas and any sports pitch while a match is on. The off-leash areas can be closed to dogs when fixtures are running, so check signage on arrival.
What's there. Drinking fountains including dog-height bowls, council waste bags and bins around the perimeter, public toilets and covered barbecue and picnic areas. The wider park also holds a skate and BMX park, a basketball half-court and a seniors exercise area, so it is a busy multi-use space.

Getting there. Free street parking runs along High Street and the local roads. Tram route 48 stops directly out front on High Street, and buses 200 and 207 run nearby, so it is well served without a car.
Nearby with the dog. Kew's dog-friendly cafes are close by, with Willo on Willsmere Road and options around Adeney Avenue handy for coffee after a run.
When to go. Weekday mornings and late evenings are quietest. The ovals are busiest on weekend mornings from around 8 to 11am, and be mindful of cricket and football fixtures that can take over the ovals on weekends and weekday evenings.
