Allingham Reserve Dog Park

Allingham Reserve Dog Park is a fully fenced 1.3 hectare off-leash park at 250 Allingham Street in Kangaroo Flat, and the detail that sets it apart is a separately fenced small-dog retreat alongside the main run. For owners of tiny or nervy dogs, that split makes it one of the most useful off-leash options in Greater Bendigo.

The dog setup

The main enclosure gives big dogs space to genuinely run across grass, sand and gravel with scattered trees, and internal gravel paths make a slow lap easy. Water taps with bowls serve both the large and small sections, covered shelters with seats keep owners out of the sun, and bins sit at the entrance. There is a community basket of dog toys by the gate, a small touch that says a lot about the crowd. Double-entry safety gates guard both the Allingham Street entrance and the southern Chapel Street entry, and the entrance and parking are wheelchair accessible.

The rules are the City of Greater Bendigo standard: dogs under control and monitored, leads carried, mess picked up. Greyhounds are the notable exception to off-leash; under the Domestic Animals Act 1994 they must stay on lead in Bendigo's off-leash parks unless they hold a Greyhounds As Pets exemption.

Max: Watch the gate latches when dogs are coming and going. A fully fenced park is only as secure as the last person through.

Park on Allingham Street with on-site and street options close by. Kangaroo Flat Railway Station on the Bendigo line is near enough to walk, and local buses run past, so arriving without a car is realistic. A playground and walking paths sit next door if the family is tagging along.
