Harcourt Dog Park is a 3.7-hectare fenced off-leash park at 204 Crook Street, Strathdale, on Bendigo's eastern side, and the standout feature is water: four small swimming dams set across a mature-treed block, linked by a creek crossed on steel footbridges.
The dog setup
The perimeter is fully fenced with secure double-gate entries, and a separately fenced section gives small, timid or recovering dogs a space away from the big players. Off the fenced boundary rules apply as usual: dogs off lead inside, a leash carried at all times, and waste picked up immediately.
One legal note matters here. Under section 27 of the Domestic Animals Act 1994, a greyhound cannot be exercised off lead, so greyhound owners keep the lead on even inside the fence, as the City of Greater Bendigo's own page states.
Pepsi: four dams means a crowded waterhole is never the end of the world. Walk fifty metres along the creek to the next one and you usually have a quiet swim spot, though check the water after hot spells before letting a keen swimmer dive in.
The terrain
A bitumen walking track loops through the grounds, which suits owners who would rather stroll the perimeter while the dog swims and sniffs. Mature trees give real summer shade, and the layout is big enough that the park absorbs a busy weekend morning without feeling crowded.
Getting there and parking
The park sits on Crook Street in Strathdale with parking at the entry, and it is an easy drive from central Bendigo via the eastern suburbs. The site is well maintained, and waste bags are provided on site, though carry your own as backup.
Summer afternoons are when the dams earn their keep, and winter mornings bring mist over the water and mostly empty grounds. It is a destination park for Bendigo dog owners rather than a walk-past green.
