W. L Simpson Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

W L Simpson Reserve on Fewster Road is a large, open grassy off-leash reserve in Hampton, the kind of plain space that suits fetch, a flat-out run and easygoing socialising. It sits near the Hampton Community Centre between Bluff Road and Hampton Street.

The rules. Dogs are off-leash throughout the reserve under Bayside City Council rules, but must be on-leash within 20 metres of any sports event, training or organised activity, and on-leash in the car park. Owners need effective control at all times, with a limit of four dogs per person.

What's there. Bench seating through the park, dog waste bins and a water fountain. Parking is on-street along Fewster Road.

Getting there. A short walk from Hampton Station on the Sandringham line, and easy to reach on foot or by bike through the surrounding streets.

Nearby with the dogs. Hampton Street and Ludstone Street have several cafés with pet-friendly courtyards for afterwards, including Cornerstone & Co on Ludstone Street and Sebastian's on Hampton Street.

When to go. Mid-morning and early afternoon are the quieter windows. Weekday late afternoons from around 4pm to 6pm and weekend mornings are the busy stretches; if it is packed, R J Sillitoe Reserve nearby is the obvious alternative. Good for confident, recall-trained dogs that want room to run.
