Capital Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Capital Reserve is a large open community park at Capital Avenue in Glen Waverley, built around a playing oval that doubles as the off leash space. It is a shared ground, home to the tennis club and active sports fields, so how much room your dog gets on any given day depends on what else is booked in.

The dog setup

Under City of Monash rules dogs run off lead on the reserve but stay under effective voice control, with a lead carried at all times. The restrictions are the usual shared-ground package: dogs come off the sportsground whenever organised sport or training is running, stay on lead on the pedestrian paths and in the car park, keep clear of the fenced playground, and stay 20 metres away from play equipment and barbecues while they are in use. Clean up after your dog, and there is a poo bag dispenser on site to help.

There is extensive grass for running and bench seating around the edges, but no dedicated dog water is guaranteed, so bring your own water and a bowl, especially in summer.

Worth knowing

The reserve is big enough that dog walkers tend to spread out rather than cluster, which suits dogs that like space. The upgraded playground with its timber play fort and nature play trail, cricket nets and tennis courts mean the park is busy with other users even when the oval itself is free, so keep an eye on stray balls and kids cutting across the grass.

Getting there and parking

Access is via Capital Avenue with parking on site, including accessible spaces and paths into the reserve. Glen Waverley Station is roughly three kilometres away, and local buses run along High Street Road for anyone arriving without a car.

Close by with the dogs

If the oval is booked for sport, North Reserve and Hinkler Reserve are both nearby off leash alternatives in Glen Waverley, and Bogong Reserve covers the eastern side of the suburb. For coffee after, Mocha Jo's is the local fixture. Weekday afternoons and quieter weekend slots suit anxious dogs best; if the ground is booked, walk the on lead paths instead.
