Beare Park

Beare Park sits at the end of Ithaca Road in Elizabeth Bay, a small harbourside green with front-row views over the bay to Rushcutters Bay and the marina. It is quiet and local, and one of the more scenic patches of grass in the inner east to let a dog off the lead once the sun starts dropping.

The dog setup

Dogs are permitted off-leash from 4:30pm to 9:30am, seven days a week, under City of Sydney rules, and must be on a leash between 9:30am and 4:30pm. The children's playground is out of bounds regardless of the hour.

The park is not fully fenced and slopes toward the water, so recall matters near the rocky shoreline. There are no taps advertised for dogs, so bring water, and carry bags for the bins.

The vibe

The 4:30pm off-leash switch draws a crowd fast, especially on weekends, so arrive right on the mark if you want space. Weekday mornings around 8am or evenings after 6pm are noticeably quieter, and the mature trees and harbour views do the rest.

Max: keep a close eye near the rocks if your dog does not have solid recall. The park is unfenced and runs straight to the water.

Facilities are decent for a small park: public toilets, seating and shade, plus public art along the foreshore. There is no sandy dog beach here, just rocky shoreline some dogs will poke around at low tide.

Getting there and parking

Street parking on Ithaca Road and the surrounding streets fills fast on sunny weekends. It is an easy walk from Kings Cross station, or a short bus ride to Elizabeth Bay Road.

Close by with the dogs

Macleay Reserve, a 24-hour off-leash reserve, is two minutes away if Beare Park is mid-window and too busy. Elizabeth Bay Cafe on Elizabeth Bay Road is a short walk for a dog-friendly brunch, and the foreshore continues toward Rushcutters Bay Park for a longer lead walk.
