Dwellingup Dog Park

The Forrest Street dog exercise area is Dwellingup's central off-leash spot, a quiet forested block a short walk from the town centre and the Trails and Visitor Centre. It is the easy option for a run before or after you tackle the trails.

The rules. Dogs can go off-leash inside the designated area but must stay under control, and you are expected to pick up after them. Worth knowing for the wider area: 1080 poison baiting is used in the surrounding Dwellingup State Forest for conservation, so keep dogs close and on-leash once you leave town, and note that Lane Poole Reserve requires dogs on-leash at all times.

What's there. It is a natural, wooded and grassy setting rather than a fenced facility, with basic bench seating for owners and plenty of shade. Bring your own water bowl.

Getting there. The area is on Forrest Street, within walking distance of the main town. Park off Marinup Street opposite the Dwellingup Hotel, or via Newton Street. It is roughly a 1 hour 15 minute drive from Perth, and there is no direct public transport, so you will need a car.

Nearby with the dogs. The Dwellingup Hotel across the road has an outdoor beer garden that is usually happy to have dogs, and the town's cafes take dogs in their outdoor areas. For an overnight, Lane Poole Reserve campgrounds allow leashed dogs.

Early mornings and weekdays are quietest. Weekends get busy after 10am with hikers and bikers using the Trails Centre, and parking near the hotel can fill on winter and spring tourist weekends.
