Dwellingup Forest Lodge

Dwellingup Forest Lodge is a row of self-contained chalets at 55 Helio Road, on the forest edge outside Dwellingup in the WA Peel region, and it is a genuinely dog-first stay: up to two dogs come free, they are allowed inside the chalets with you, and the hosts provide the dog kit. It suits owners who want a base close to the Murray River trails without kennelling the dog somewhere else.

Dogs at Dwellingup Forest Lodge

Social, well-behaved dogs are welcome, with no extra charge for up to two. Dogs may be inside the chalets but strictly not on the beds or furniture, so bring their bedding. The lodge provides doggy bowls, dog towels and poo bags, and some chalets have small enclosed patios or verandas where a dog can settle outside safely. There is no pet fee, so the trade is care: dogs must be supervised and cannot be left unattended anywhere on the property, and guests are asked to vacuum thoroughly before departure, with extra cleaning fees possible if hair or mess is left behind.

The chalets

The chalets are peaceful, well equipped and self-contained, with verandahs looking over forest and a dam. Guests rate the quiet bush setting highly, and the layout works for couples or small families. It is a four-star style chalet property rather than a resort, and the town's shops and cafes are a few minutes' drive.

Getting there and parking

Dwellingup is about 100 kilometres south of Perth and a 15-minute drive from Pinjarra. The lodge sits just outside town with on-site parking at each chalet. Lane Poole Reserve's trailheads and river campgrounds are a short drive away.

Close by with the dogs

For off-leash time, Dwellingup dog park is in town, and Lane Poole Reserve allows dogs on leash in its named campgrounds along the Murray River. Take the leash rules seriously there and watch for 1080 baiting notices, which are common in WA forest reserves. For coffee, Blue Wren Cafe is the town's dog-friendly cafe.
