Baden Powell Campground

Baden Powell is a campground inside Lane Poole Reserve near Dwellingup, set on the Murray River, and leashed dogs are permitted to stay overnight. It is a well-rated bush camping option for owners who want river swimming and walking trails from the tent door.

The pet policy. This is a camping-only site, so dogs stay at your campsite with a tent, caravan or motorhome. Because it sits within a National Park and conservation reserve, dogs must be kept on a leash and under strict control at all times. What's there. Facilities include long-drop toilets, a camp kitchen, fire pits, picnic tables and BBQs, with canoeing, swimming and walking trails on the doorstep. Bring your own water for the dog.

Watch-outs. The surrounding forest is subject to 1080 poison baiting for conservation, which is lethal to dogs, so keep them leashed and close and never let them scavenge or roam off-track.

Weekends and school holidays fill up, so book ahead and aim for a weekday if you want quieter riverbank space.
