Anderson Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Anderson Reserve on Linda Street in Coburg is a shady neighbourhood reserve where the designated off-leash area sits under a stand of mature Kurrajong trees. It is a local's park rather than a destination: the kind of place for the daily run and a sit on a bench while the dog works the grass.

The dog setup

The off-leash zone is unfenced, so recall is the requirement, not a suggestion. Merri-bek City Council's rules apply: dogs off-lead must stay under effective voice or hand control, you carry a leash at all times, and dogs go back on the lead within 15 metres of the playground, barbecue and picnic areas. Dogs are prohibited within 15 metres of playgrounds entirely, and the council does not supply bags, so come stocked. Signage marks the off-leash boundary, so read it on arrival rather than guessing.

Max: mature trees and off-lead grass is a rare combination in the inner north - this is an everyday park, not a field trip.

Worth knowing

The reserve is accessible 24 hours, and the shade holds up through summer mornings better than most open ovals. There is a separate fenced children's playground and a basketball ring, so expect kids and casual sport around the edges; the leash rules near those areas are the price of a park that works for everyone. If your dog needs a fully secured run, this is the wrong tool - head to a fenced enclosure instead.

Anderson Reserve sits on a residential block in Coburg, reached on foot from the surrounding streets or with kerbside parking nearby. Sydney Road's tram and train links are within walking distance if you are coming from further afield.
