Anderson Reserve is a shady local reserve in Coburg with a designated off-leash area set under mature Kurrajong trees. It is a neighbourhood park rather than a destination, useful for a daily run with good shade, but it is not fully fenced, so recall matters.

The rules. Dogs may be off-lead in the designated area but must stay under effective voice control. Lead up within 10 metres of the playground, barbecue and picnic areas. The off-leash zone is not fully fenced, and council signage marks the boundaries, so check them on arrival. Access is 24/7.

What is there. Mature trees give genuine shade, with bench seating for owners. There is a separate fenced children's playground and a basketball half-court, plus waste bins on site. It is a tidy, simple local park.

Getting there. At 44-46 Linda Street, Coburg. Street parking is available on Linda Street and the surrounding residential streets. It is an easy walk for locals and close to the Sydney Road transport links.

No fence and the boundaries are signage-only, so if your dog is reactive or still learning recall, come at a quiet time and keep them close to the middle of the off-leash zone.

Nearby with the dog. El Parche on Sydney Road is a short hop for a coffee afterwards.

When to go. Busiest on weekends and weekday afternoons. Weekday mornings and later on Sunday evenings are quietest, which is the better window for a nervous dog given there is no fence.
