Amaroo Drive Reserve is a long green strip in Chelsea Heights with a partially fenced off-leash area running alongside a refurbished playground. It's a solid local option if you want established shade trees, a paved path and a proper off-leash run without travelling to the coast.
The rules. Dogs can run off-leash in the designated area, but must stay under effective voice control at all times. Leash up before entering surrounding paths and anywhere near the playground, and keep at least 20 metres from the play equipment. The off-leash zone is only partially fenced, so keep an eye on dogs that are quick to chase or wander near the open sections.
What's there. Drinking fountains with dog bowls, picnic tables, park benches and a paved walking trail run through the reserve, with established trees for shade. Waste bags and bins are provided.
Getting there. Street parking is available along Amaroo Drive. Chelsea Station on the Frankston line is the closest train stop, about a 5 to 10 minute drive or a 25 to 30 minute walk, and local buses run along Wells Road a short walk from the park.
Nearby with the dogs. The Little Coffee Place on Wells Road, Jack The Lad Cafe on the Nepean Highway in Chelsea, and Edithvale General Store & Cafe a short drive away are all worth a stop with a dog in tow.

When to go. Weekday mid-mornings or early evenings are quietest. Weekend mornings between 9 and 11am and weekday afternoons after school pick-up draw the biggest crowds. Good for dogs that are reliable off-leash near a playground, less ideal for boundary-testers given the partial fencing.
