Merri Merri Park Fenced Dog Park sits within 3.5 hectares of parkland at 106 Greenford Street, Chapel Hill, in Brisbane's leafy western suburbs. The fenced off-leash enclosure is the draw: a fully secured yard where dogs can genuinely run, backed by mature shade trees and a pergola for the humans. It is one of the few proper enclosed options on this side of the river, so it pulls a loyal local crowd.

The dog setup

The enclosure is fully fenced with a double-gated entry, so leads come off only after the gate closes behind you. It is one shared space, with no separate small-dog section, which is worth knowing if your dog is tiny or timid at peak times. Owners stay inside and keep dogs in sight, bags and bins are provided on site, and any dog showing aggression or persistent nuisance barking is expected to be leashed and taken out. A water tap and drinking fountain cover hydration.

The vibe

Weekday evenings from roughly 4:30 to 6pm and weekend mornings are the busy windows, filled with locals from Chapel Hill and Kenmore; weekday mornings and mid-afternoon are quieter and better for a shy dog. Shaded benches and the pergola give owners a proper place to sit, and the adjoining unfenced park area adds electric barbecues and swings if you are making a family afternoon of it.

Pepsi: the grass goes soft and worn after rain and the low patches hold water. Great fun for a splasher, but pack the paw wipes for the car.

Free street parking runs along Greenford Street right by the park, with wheelchair-accessible parking and entrances. It is a residential pocket, so most visitors drive in off Moggill Road, though Brisbane City Council buses along that road leave you a walkable distance away.

Worth knowing

The ground turns muddy after heavy rain and stays that way for a day or two, so dry-weather visits suit dogs that hate a bath. Because it is a single communal yard, the enclosure can feel crowded during the evening rush. The shade from the mature trees makes summer mornings workable, which is not true of every Brisbane dog park.

Close by with the dogs

Cubberla Creek Reserve Dog Off Leash Area is the open, unfenced alternative in the same suburb, and Green Hill Reservoir makes a scenic on-lead walk. Hearts Cafe at Pinjarra Hills is a short drive for a coffee with the dog.
