Balfe Park Dog Off Leash Area

Balfe Park is a community neighbourhood park in Brunswick East built around a large open grass oval, often used for soccer, and the whole park is designated off-leash. It is a friendly local spot for social dogs, best in daylight since the oval is unlit.

Getting there. The park is at 64 John Street. Parking is genuinely difficult; the narrow surrounding streets are usually packed with residents' cars, so walking or the tram is the better call. The Route 1 and 6 trams on Lygon Street are within walking distance.

Nearby with the dogs. Lygon Street is a short walk away with dog-friendly cafes and pubs; check patio availability before you sit down. Pet-friendly stays in the area include serviced apartments and local Airbnbs.

Monday and Tuesday mornings are the quietest. Avoid weekend and weekday-evening drives here because of the parking crunch, and steer clear when a game is on. Good for a social local dog with solid recall.
