Wellington Point Recreation Reserve sits at the tip of the Wellington Point peninsula in Birkdale, right on Moreton Bay, and despite the "dog park" name it is an on-leash reserve, not an off-leash area. The drawcard is the sandbar out to King Island, walkable at low tide, plus wide grassy foreshore and easy bay access for a leashed swim.
- The rules. Dogs must stay on lead at all times across the reserve and along the King Island sandbar walk. Keep at least 10 metres clear of the playground and stay off the designated bathing reserve. Redland City Council rangers patrol and enforce the on-leash requirement.
- What's there. Free parking (fills fast on weekends and fine-weather days), accessible toilets, free electric barbecues, picnic tables, shaded spots, a jetty, and a children's playground. There's easy on-lead access to the water for a paddle or swim.
- Getting there. The reserve is at 2A Main Road, Wellington Point, at the very end of the peninsula. TransLink buses run nearby, but expect a walk from the closest stop to the point itself. Drive if you can, and arrive early on weekends before the car park fills.
- Tides matter. The sandbar walk to King Island is about 2 kilometres return and is only passable at low tide. Check a Redlands Coast tide chart before you go, since high tide submerges the path.
- Nearby with the dogs. Main Road has a handful of cafes and kiosks with outdoor seating near the point, and O'GABEE & Co Coffee Roastery in Birkdale is a short drive away for a dog-friendly coffee stop. Call ahead to confirm any cafe's current pet policy.

Go early on a weekday if you want the sandbar to yourselves, and always check the tide chart first. Good for leashed dogs that enjoy a coastal walk and a paddle rather than an off-leash run.
