Coleman Park Fenced Dog Park

Coleman Park Fenced Dog Park sits toward the southern end of Coleman Park on Leila Street in Berala, a fully fenced off-leash area with a double-gate airlock entry so dogs cannot bolt on the way in or out. It is open 24 hours a day, every day, and the layout gives smaller or shy dogs room away from bigger, boisterous ones.

The dog setup

Dogs stay leashed through the double-gate airlock and come off the lead only inside the fenced enclosure, where they must remain under effective control of a handler who stays inside and supervises. Cumberland City Council prohibits dangerous, menacing and restricted breeds from the off-leash area, and on-the-spot fines apply for not cleaning up waste, so bag it and bin it immediately. Dispensers are not always stocked, so carry your own bags. The yard is mainly grass with basic agility equipment such as tunnels and hurdles, a drinking water fountain, bench seating and established shade trees, and there is reasonable lighting for evening visits.

Max: hold your dog's collar through the first gate before you open the second, especially if there is already a dog loose inside. The airlock is the whole point of this park.

Worth knowing

The ground turns to mud after rain, so keep a towel in the car. Late afternoon between 5pm and 7pm, plus weekend mornings, draw a friendly regular crowd; if your dog finds other dogs overwhelming, a weekday mid-morning visit is quieter. The broader Coleman Park adds sports fields, a playground and public toilets, but those areas are on-leash and out of bounds for off-lead play.

Getting there and parking

The park is at 37 to 45 Leila Street, Berala NSW 2141. Free street parking runs along Leila Street and Georges Avenue alongside the park perimeter, and Berala Station on the T3 Bankstown Line is a short walk or drive away, with Lidcombe Station also within about 10 minutes on foot.

Band Hall Reserve Fenced Dog Park at Birrong and Regents Park Fenced Dog Park are both nearby enclosed options, and Wyatt Park Fenced Dog Park is a short drive north at Lidcombe. For a coffee, Piccolo Me at Lidcombe is the closest in-DB stop.
