Hann Creek Off-leash Dog Park

Hann Creek Off-leash Dog Park sits inside Hanns Creek Reserve on Frankston-Flinders Road at Balnarring, on the Mornington Peninsula. It is a fully fenced run of roughly 100 by 30 metres mixing open grass for sprints with a wooded corner of trees and fallen logs for sniffing, behind a proper double-gate airlock entry.

The dog setup

Off-leash applies only inside the fenced perimeter. Dogs stay on leash through the car park and surrounding bushland, owners keep their dogs under effective control, and bags and bins are provided for cleanup. Dogs should be fully vaccinated before visiting. The airlock entry means you can unclip without a dog squeezing past you at the gate, but it only works if both gates get shut behind you.

Max: check both gates are closed before you let go of the lead. The airlock does its job only if nobody has propped the outer gate open.

The vibe

This is a generally quiet community park. Weekend mornings and sunny afternoons bring the most dogs; mid-week late morning or early afternoon is the calm window. Seating inside the fence is limited, with picnic tables set up outside, so plan where you want to sit before you unclip. The creek itself is inland and there is no water in the run, so bring a bowl and fill up at the tap.

Getting there and parking

The park is on Frankston-Flinders Road a short drive from Balnarring Village, with a large gravel car park at the entrance right off the road. Public transport is limited: the nearest train is Hastings on the Frankston line, which still leaves a taxi or bus onward. Inside the reserve there is a covered shelter with barbecue and picnic tables, plus public toilets and water taps near the picnic zone.

Make a day of it
