Phase Two

Phase Two is a modern brunch cafe in the middle of Balnarring Village on the Mornington Peninsula, with a fit-out and a menu that would not be out of place in inner Melbourne. For dog owners it works the simple way: well-behaved leashed dogs take the outdoor tables out front, and staff are used to it.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables on a lead; the indoor room is people only. Water bowls are generally put out, and the staff are comfortable with four-legged customers, but bring your own bowl on a busy day to be safe. The footpath tables sit along the village strip, so keep your dog tucked in close while the strip is busy.

Worth knowing

The Balnarring Bene is the signature brunch order, and the zucchini fritters and waffles get their share of mentions, with good gluten-free and vegan coverage across the menu. Save room for the house-made Licca Lucca gelato, made with non-homogenised milk, and the cheese platters cover the sharing end. Hours run 7am to 3pm on weekdays and 7:30am to 3pm on weekends, with the morning the busy stretch.

Getting there and parking

The cafe is at Shop 11, 3050 Frankston-Flinders Road, in the Balnarring village shopping strip, with parking directly in front and around the strip. It is about twenty minutes from Frankston and an easy base for a peninsula day.

Close by with the dogs

Hann Creek Off-leash Dog Park is the local off-lead option, and Balnarring Beach and Merricks Beach are both short drives for a leash-on coastal walk before or after breakfast.
