Assistance Dog Relief Area

A small, council-built relief area at Ballarat Railway Station on Doveton Street South, this is a dedicated toileting space for guide and assistance dogs, set up by the City of Ballarat so handlers have a known spot at a busy transport hub.

Who it is for. It is purpose-built for accredited guide dogs and assistance dogs working with their handlers, not a general off-leash or exercise area. The point is to give working dogs a safe, appropriate place to relieve themselves without handlers having to search for one or field complaints in public.

Where it is. It sits in the Ballarat Railway Station precinct on Doveton Street South, Ballarat Central, a central transport hub, which makes it easy to use when arriving or departing by train. The project was developed with the City of Ballarat's Disability Advisory Committee.

Useful to know if you travel through Ballarat with a working dog. For pet dogs, the Sturt Street gardens and Lake Wendouree are the better-known options nearby for a walk.
