Windemere Road Park Fenced Dog Park sits on the corner of Windemere Road and Sophia Place in Alexandra Hills, and it is one of the Redlands' more thoughtfully laid out fenced dog areas. The combination of a double-gated entry, fully enclosed chain-link fencing and separate small and large dog zones makes it a practical choice for households with dogs of different sizes or temperaments.

The dog setup

The off-leash area is fully fenced, and you enter through a double-gate airlock that gives you room to unclip before the gate swings open. Two separate enclosures split small dogs from large dogs, and the large dog section has basic agility equipment to give energetic dogs something more than flat ground to work with. Shade comes from mature trees, and there is a sheltered undercover seating area so you can stay comfortable while the dogs burn off energy.

Water bowls and stations are available for the dogs, along with ecosac bag dispensers and bins. Under Redland City Council rules, dogs need to be registered, wear their tag, be on lead until inside the fence, and stay under effective voice control once off it. Owners need to stay and supervise, and any dog showing aggression should be leashed and taken out of the area. Restricted or declared dangerous breeds are not permitted.

Max: if your dog is nervous around groups, the shaded section under the trees away from the main gate is a calmer spot to start in before joining the busier open area.

The vibe

This is a quiet neighbourhood park rather than a destination dog park, and regulars describe it as well maintained. Late afternoon on weekdays and weekend afternoons draw the biggest crowds, so mid-morning on a weekday is your window if your dog prefers space. The wider park has a playground, skatepark, BBQ facilities and an outdoor fitness circuit, which helps if you are juggling kids and dogs on the same outing.

Getting there and parking

The entrance is straightforward to find on Windemere Road, with free street parking on the surrounding residential roads close to the gate. There is no rail line in this part of the Redlands, so most people drive, though locals in the surrounding Alexandra Hills streets can walk in easily.

While you're out there

For a change of scene, the Scribbly Gum Circuit is a bushland walk in the same suburb, and George Street Park Fenced Dog Park gives you a second fenced option nearby. On a hot day, Raby Bay Dog Beach at Cleveland is a short drive east for a swim.
