Beess & Co Cafe

Beess & Co Cafe sits in the Yarralumla shops on Bentham Street and has built its name as one of the more genuinely dog-friendly cafes in this part of Canberra, with a large shaded courtyard and a habit of turning up on local dog-friendly-cafe lists. Hours run 7am to 2:30pm Monday to Saturday, from 8am on Sundays.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the sheltered outdoor courtyard and at the footpath tables out front. Indoor seating is people only, in line with ACT food premises rules. The courtyard sits under a big old plane tree, so there is real shade in summer, and heaters come out in the cooler months. Water bowls are put out, and staff are known for being welcoming to dogs rather than merely tolerating them.

The vibe

The menu covers breakfast and lunch with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options, and the coffee comes from Axil Coffee Roasters. This is a local favourite rather than a destination cafe, which keeps the room relaxed even when the Yarralumla shops are humming on a Saturday.

Getting there

The cafe is at 5/29 Bentham Street in the Yarralumla shopping village. Parking is free and unmetered in the surrounding streets and the small car park, and the path from the street to the outdoor tables is flat and easy for older dogs.

The classic loop is an off-lead session at the Yarralumla Dog Park, a three-minute drive or a short walk away, then coffee here while your dog dries off. The Weston Park walk and the Lake Burley Griffin loop both pass through the suburb for an on-lead leg-stretch.
