Farmers Daughter

Farmers Daughter is a neighbourhood cafe at 27B Bentham Street in the Yarralumla shops, beside the IGA and a short stroll from Lake Burley Griffin. The kitchen cooks everything in house, Campos coffee goes through the machine all day, and the dog friendly courtyard out front is what earns it a spot on a dog walk loop through the suburb.

The dog setup

Dogs settle in the courtyard seating, which the cafe advertises outright as dog friendly. Indoor seating is people only, standard for ACT food premises. Water bowls are usually put out and staff will often bring a treat if one is going, though carrying your own travel bowl covers you on busy mornings. Keep the lead on and the dog tucked close, because the courtyard sits right against the Bentham Street footpath traffic.

Worth knowing

The menu runs from big breakfasts to corn fritters, sausage rolls and minestrone, and the coffee is the thing regulars come back for. It opens early, 6:30am, and trades through to 3pm seven days, so it works both as a pre-walk coffee stop and a post-walk brunch. Weekend mid-mornings are the busiest stretch; go early for a courtyard table.

Getting there and parking

Bentham Street runs through the Yarralumla shops, with street parking on Bentham and the surrounding residential streets usually easy outside the weekend brunch peak. It is a flat walk or ride from the lake foreshore if you are already out with the dog.

Close by with the dogs

Yarralumla Dog Park is on Weston Park Road a couple of minutes away for off-leash time, and Weston Park gives you open lawns and a sandy lake edge for an on-lead wander. Beess & Co Cafe sits at the same shops with its own dog-welcoming outdoor area, handy if Farmers Daughter is full.
