The Social @ IPAC

The Social @ IPAC is the cafe and bar on site at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre at 32 Burelli Street in the Wollongong CBD, run so that all profits go back into Merrigong's performing arts program. Coffee and a reuben by day, local beers and wine before curtain, with the open forecourt giving dogs more room than a tight footpath strip.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the outdoor tables in the arts precinct forecourt, not inside the venue. There is no published pet policy, so the alfresco tables are the expected spot, and it pays to confirm with staff on arrival if the precinct is busy with a show crowd. Bring your own water bowl, as one is not guaranteed.

Worth knowing

The menu is all-day and lighter-leaning: salads, sandwiches, sweet treats and a well-liked hot chocolate, plus local beers and wines later. It opens weekdays from 7:30am, with the bar serving from an hour before every performance, and no bookings are taken, so arriving ahead of a show matters. Weekends are generally quiet given the theatre schedule.

Getting there and parking

IPAC sits on Burelli Street, central in the CBD. Street parking nearby is paid and time-limited; the Wollongong Central car parks are a short walk if the kerb is full. The precinct is flat and walkable, so once you are parked the outing works on foot with the dog.

Close by with the dogs
