Deli Bean Cafe

Deli Bean Cafe sits at 237 Beechworth Road in Wodonga, and the dog friendly draw is the partly undercover courtyard out the back: a green, leafy pocket ringed with trees and herbs where dogs settle in beside the table while you work through an all-day breakfast. It is open Monday to Saturday, 7:30am to 4pm, and is a genuine local institution, one of the most reviewed cafes on the Border.

The dog setup

Dogs go in the outdoor courtyard and the limited footpath seating out front; the indoor dining room is people only. The courtyard is partly undercover, so it works on a frosty Border morning as well as a summer one, and the planting gives dogs something to hide behind when the cafe fills. Tripadvisor reviewers with dogs call out the welcome they received. Keep your dog leashed and bring a water bowl as backup, since the courtyard's supply is not guaranteed on busy mornings.

Worth knowing

The kitchen runs all-day breakfast until close: eggs your way, omelettes, smashed avocado, pancakes, eggs benedict and eggs royale, plus lunch plates from focaccias and sandwiches to pasta and risotto, with daily blackboard specials in between. Gluten free bread is on hand, zucchini fritters and baklava have their fans, and the coffee comes with an unusually wide range of milk options. The bacon and egg roll is the early order of choice, and there is often a tradie roll-and-coffee deal going.

Getting there

Beechworth Road is one of Wodonga's main south-side strips, minutes from the Hume Freeway on-ramps, with easy parking directly out the front. If you are crossing the border from Albury it is a ten minute drive, and it pairs naturally with a run at Wodonga's main dog park on the way home.

Close by with the dogs
