Canteen Eats at MAPh

The short version. Canteen Eats is the cafe inside the Museum of Australian Photography (MAPh) grounds at 860 Ferntree Gully Road, set among landscaped gardens. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor deck and garden tables, which makes it a relaxed stop for a coffee after a walk.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome outside on the deck and in the surrounding garden seating. They are not permitted inside the cafe or the gallery spaces, with the usual exception for assistance dogs. Water bowls are often out in the outdoor area, but bring your own to be sure.

Good to know. The appeal is the garden setting, good coffee, a display cabinet of croissants, cakes and toasties, and a full lunch menu. Hours run roughly Tuesday to Friday 10am to 4pm and weekends 10am to 3pm, closed Mondays, so it is not an early-breakfast option.

Getting there. The address is 860 Ferntree Gully Road, Wheelers Hill, just off the Ferntree Gully Road and Wellington Road intersection, with free on-site parking at the museum.

Nearby with the dogs. The paths around the museum pond and gardens are pleasant for a short on-leash stroll, and the Jells Park trails are close by for a longer outing.
