Oliver Brown(Wetherill Park)

Oliver Brown is a Belgian chocolate cafe in the outdoor dining precinct at Stockland Wetherill Park, a short walk from the Hoyts entrance, and it is one of the few spots in the centre where your dog can sit down with you. Churros, waffles, fondue and thick hot chocolate are the draw, and the open-air tables make it a workable chocolate stop on a shopping day with the dog in tow.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor and alfresco tables, on lead and settled beside you. The indoor cafe is off limits under standard food rules, so this is an outside-only arrangement, and the evidence is more anecdotal than an official written policy, so a quick word with staff when you arrive is sensible. Bring your own water bowl; staff will usually help with water on request but a bowl at the table is not guaranteed.

The vibe and the menu

The whole point of Oliver Brown is the chocolate: Belgian milk, dark and white sauces and dips, plus churros, waffles, crepes and fondue for the table. The iced and hot chocolate drinks are strong enough to be the reason for the trip on their own. There is a proper cafe menu too, with eggs benedict among the regular orders. Hours run 8am to 5:30pm most days, to 9pm on Thursdays, with a 9am start on Sundays. Weekends and school holidays get busy, so an early table is easier than a 11am one.

Getting there and parking

Stockland Wetherill Park sits on Polding Street, and the open-air carpark on the dining and cinema side gives the shortest walk with a dog. Buses along Polding Street cover anyone arriving without a car. Keep the loop tight, because a shopping centre forecourt is not a place for a long off-lead wander.

Close by with the dogs

For a proper run-around after your hot chocolate, the fenced area at Fairfield Showground is a short drive north, and Fairfield Park gives another fenced option closer in. Born to Brew on The Horsley Drive is the other Wetherill Park cafe known for looking after dogs, with staff often bringing water out unprompted, and Hoppa and Joe is a good coffee stop if you are drifting toward Fairfield.
