Rough Diamond

Rough Diamond is a coffee-focused cafe on Koroit Street in central Warrnambool, set in a refurbished 1970s building a short walk from the city centre. For dog owners the draw is the grassy patio out the side, where dogs are welcome and there is actual green underfoot instead of a tight footpath strip.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome on the outdoor grassed patio; the cafe building itself is people only. The extra room is the difference here: a dog that likes to stretch out does better on grass than squeezed against a kerb, and the setup is more forgiving for larger dogs than most city pavements. Water bowls often appear from staff or regulars, but bring your own to be sure.

Worth knowing

The coffee is the headline, pulling Small Batch Roasting Co beans, backed by well-regarded toasties on Jane Dough sourdough and produce from local makers like Schulz Organic Dairy. It trades mornings to early afternoon, 7am to 2pm on weekdays and 8am to 1pm Saturday, and currently closes Sundays, so check the hours before you build a Sunday plan around it. Weekday mornings are the calm stretch on the patio; weekends get busy.

Getting there and parking

The address is 203 Koroit Street. Street parking runs along Koroit and the side streets and gets busy at peak, but it is an easy walk from the heart of town if you are already out with the dog.

Close by with the dogs

The Warrnambool Botanic Gardens are close for a post-coffee wander, and Lake Pertobe is a short drive for open space and walking paths. For off-lead time, the Victoria Park Community Dog Park covers it properly.
