Beaches Cafe & Bar sits at Flagstaff Hill, 91 Merri Street, Warrnambool, in a spot that hands it the best outlook in town: an elevated balcony over Lady Bay with the lighthouse in frame. It runs as a daytime cafe with a licensed bar attached, and dogs are welcome across the outdoor balcony and patio tables, which makes it a proper destination stop on the Warrnambool foreshore circuit rather than just a coffee halt.

The dog setup

Dogs stay outside on lead, but the balcony and patio give genuine room to tuck a dog beside your chair, and the open, breezy outlook suits sociable dogs who like watching the world go by. Ask staff for a water bowl if one has not landed on your table. On-site private parking is a genuine plus with a dog in tow, since foreshore parking elsewhere gets competitive in summer.

The menu

The kitchen covers breakfast and lunch with eggs Benedict, salmon bagels, toasties, prawn tacos and a good run of gluten-free options, plus homemade cakes in the cabinet. The bar side pours local wine, beer and cocktails, so a lunch stop can stretch into the afternoon. Hours are 8:30am to 3pm on weekdays and 8am to 2pm on weekends. Weekend brunch is the busy peak, so weekday mornings leave the most space to settle a dog.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits near the entrance to Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village, a short walk from the foreshore promenade and Lake Pertobe. Lady Bay Beach is close by, but Warrnambool's beach dog zones shift seasonally and by location, so check council signage before heading to the sand with your dog.

While you're out there

For an off-lead run, Victoria Park Community Dog Park is the local community dog park. On the food trail, Seaview Warrnambool takes dogs on its large terrace and beer garden near Pertobe Road, and Rough Diamond is a solid CBD coffee backup.
