Windows On Westella

Windows On Westella is a licensed cafe on a rural property at 100 Westella Drive, just off the Bass Highway on the edge of Ulverstone on Tasmania's north-west coast. It has one of the more generous dog setups in the region: a tree-shaded courtyard, a verandah and a big fenced grassy area out the back where table service still finds you.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the courtyard, on the shaded verandah or on the open grassed area behind the cafe, with service reaching all three spaces. Staff have a reputation for being easygoing with pets, but bringing your own water bowl is the safe play. The grassed run out the back makes this the pick for large dogs that need room to flop, and the tree shade keeps summer mornings workable.

Pepsi: a fenced grassy yard with table service is a rare find. Big dogs can actually relax instead of threading between tables.

The vibe

This is the home of Tasmanian Pickled Onions, and the drinks list leans on the property's own Broad Acres Vineyard alongside local craft beer. In the kitchen, waffles are the thing people come back for, with the lemon curd pavlova waffle and the corn fritter waffles the repeat orders. Hours run 8:30am to 3:30pm daily, though confirming before a special trip is sensible for a rural cafe.

The property sits on Westella Drive, a short drive from the Ulverstone town centre with on-site parking at the door. It is an easy stop off the Bass Highway if you are working your way along the north-west coast between Devonport and the Leven.

Make a day of it
