A CBD bakehouse with plenty of outdoor seating and a dog-friendly welcome. Despite the name, Turvey Bakehouse sits in the city centre at 95 Denham Street, towards the Flinders Street end, not in any Turvey suburb. It is a cosy spot built around loaded cookies, scones, cakes and pastries, open mornings into early afternoon.

The dog setup. The bakehouse advertises plenty of outdoor seating and welcomes dogs at those tables. Indoors is generally service dogs only. Water bowls are not guaranteed, so bring your own for a longer stop.

Known for. Soft, stuffed gourmet cookies (Nutella, Biscoff, macadamia white chocolate), plus tiramisu, scones and freshly baked cakes. Popular lines sell out, so arrive earlier in the day.

Getting there and parking. On Denham Street in the CBD. Street parking is available but competitive in business hours. A short, flat walk from the Palmer Street accommodation strip and the Flinders Street precinct.

Nearby with the dog. Easy walking to the Ross Creek paths, and a short drive to Queens Gardens for a shaded on-lead wander or The Strand for a longer foreshore walk.

When to go. Mornings, and early if you want the cookies. A quick treat stop rather than a long sit-down.
