Turvey Bakehouse

Despite the name, Turvey Bakehouse sits in the Townsville CBD at 95 Denham Street, towards the Flinders Street end, built around loaded gourmet cookies, scones and freshly baked cakes. It advertises plenty of outdoor seating and welcomes dogs at those tables, which makes it an easy treat stop on a CBD loop with the dog.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the outdoor tables, on lead, with the indoor space generally left to service dogs. It is a quick-stop format rather than a long sit-down, so a shaded table and a settled dog is all the setup you need. Water bowls are not guaranteed, so bring one in for a longer stop.

Worth knowing

The cookies are the headliners: soft, stuffed, and changing with the seasons, think choc nut, Biscoff-style and macadamia white chocolate, all baked on site alongside tiramisu, scones and cakes. Popular lines genuinely do sell out, and the online shop shows sold-out tags on favourites well before close. Hours run 7:30am to 2pm weekdays and 7:30am to 1pm weekends, so go early for the full cabinet.

The bakehouse is on Denham Street in the city grid, with street parking available but competitive during business hours. It is a short, flat walk from the Palmer Street accommodation strip and the Flinders Street precinct, which suits anyone staying in the CBD with a dog in tow.
