Papa Christo's

Papa Christo's is a Greek deli and cafe at 16 Stokes Street in the Townsville CBD, opened into a renovated heritage building and now drawing a loyal morning crowd. It pairs proper coffee with a real deli counter, and dogs are welcome at the alfresco tables out front.

The dog setup

Bring your dog to the outdoor alfresco seating, on lead and settled beside your table. The footpath tables are roomy enough for a dog to lie down comfortably, and staff are generally happy to set out water on request, though packing your own bowl is a safe move on busy mornings. It is a CBD street setting rather than an enclosed courtyard, so calm, lead-savvy dogs are the best fit.

Worth knowing

The food is the reason locals queue: fresh-made paninis, baguettes and gourmet focaccias, plus homemade Mediterranean sweets like baklava. The deli side sells cheeses, cured meats, olives and pantry goods to take home, so it works as a grocery stop as much as a cafe. Hours are 7am to 2pm Monday to Friday and 8am to midday on Sunday, with Saturday closed, so plan the dog's coffee run accordingly. Mornings are when the counter is fully stocked.

Getting there and parking

Stokes Street sits in the Flinders Street end of the CBD, an easy walk from the Strand foreshore, with metered street parking and paid carparks nearby. Weekday mornings are busiest with the office crowd; Sunday mornings are slower.

The Beet Bar at number 21 on the same street has outdoor footpath seating and its own dog following, making the pair easy to compare. Juliette's on the Strand is a coastal alternative for the coffee leg.
