The Beet Bar

The Beet Bar at 21 Stokes Street is a bright, casual juice and brunch bar in the heart of the Townsville CBD, built around fresh juices, smoothies and acai bowls, open seven days from 6:30am. Dogs are welcome at the street-side footpath tables rather than inside the air-conditioned room.

The dog setup

Bring your dog to the outdoor seating and order from there; staff are used to dogs at the tables and water bowls are usually about. The footpath spots are limited and exposed to the sun, so on a hot Townsville day a collapsible bowl and a shaded end table are worth having. This is a quick-refuel cafe rather than a long-sit one, which suits dogs who would rather keep moving anyway.

The vibe

Made-to-order juices and smoothies lead the menu, with the acai bowls the signature order, plus waffles, potato rosti and corn fritters. There is a solid run of gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan options, and everything travels well if you would rather grab and go. Trading runs 6:30am to 3pm daily. Best on a cooler morning before the lunch rush; the footpath tables bake by mid-morning in the tropics.

Getting there and parking

The bar sits in the CBD block between Flinders Street and The Strand, with free and paid street parking along Stokes Street and the surrounding blocks, and it is an easy on-lead walk if you are already in town.

Make a day of it

Queens Gardens is a short stroll for an on-lead wander through the heritage botanic gardens, and The Strand promenade is a quick drive or longer walk for a coastal leg. Turvey Bakehouse and Pedlar Project are other CBD spots with outdoor space, and Juliette's sits on The Strand.
