Workers Hub Cafe

Workers Hub Cafe runs out of Unit 2/1 Hanrahan Street in Thomastown's industrial pocket, and the name tells you the rhythm: a fast, weekday trade fuelled by banh mi, loaded rolls and coffee for the local crews. It is a quick-stop venue, and well-behaved dogs on a lead can join you at the outdoor seating while you eat.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating area on a lead. As with all Victorian food premises, pets stay outside where food is served, so plan on the footpath tables. Staff are easygoing and will usually sort a water bowl, but bring your own on a busy run.

The vibe and the menu

The draw is the signature crispy pork banh mi, plus loaded sandwiches, potato cakes, hearty breakfast rolls and sweet treats, all with barista coffee behind them. The cafe also does corporate and crew catering for the surrounding warehouses. Hours are strictly Monday to Friday, 6am to 3pm, with weekends closed, so this is a working-week dog stop rather than a Saturday brunch plan.

Getting there and parking

Hanrahan Street sits in the industrial grid off High Street and Dalton Road, close to Thomastown station. Street parking in the surrounding industrial streets is generally easy, which makes a dash-and-dog coffee run simpler than in the strip shopping areas.

Make a day of it

Whittlesea is an on-lead municipality by default, so pick your park deliberately: the fenced off-leash area with double gates and agility gear at Whittlesea Public Gardens Fenced Dog Park in Lalor is the closest proper run, and Redleap Recreation Reserve Dog Off-Leash Area sits by Peter Hopper Lake in Mill Park.
