Abattoir Blues

Abattoir Blues is a licensed all-day diner on Herb Elliott Avenue, set inside a repurposed early-1900s abattoir building in Sydney Olympic Park. The precinct feels quiet for its location, the courtyard is a relaxed outdoor room, and this is one of the few spots around that runs a dedicated Pooch Menu alongside the regular menu. Dogs are explicitly welcome.

The dog setup

Dogs sit with you in the outdoor dining areas, a courtyard-style space that is often covered and considerably quieter than the main strip. Staff tend to greet canine guests quickly and bring water bowls out. Dogs must stay leashed and with you at the table, and if you are booking, ask for a dog-friendly table so you land in the right section.

Hearty brunch plates lead the menu: spiced maple benne, wild mushroom dishes and smashed avocado, plus Wagyu burgers, a falafel nourish bowl and schnitzel for lunch. There is craft beer on tap and wine for a slower weekend table, and Sunday lunches often come with live music. On stadium and concert days the kitchen switches to streamlined pre-event menus, so expect a different rhythm when something is on at Accor Stadium.

The address is Building C, 1 Herb Elliott Avenue, an easy walk from Olympic Park station. Paid parking is available at the Herb Elliott Avenue carpark and other Sydney Olympic Park Authority car parks. Doors open 7am on weekdays and 8am on weekends, with the kitchen closing mid afternoon.

Close by with the dogs

Sydney Olympic Park Dog off leash area is the obvious leg stretch nearby, and Pierre De Coubertin Fenced Dog Park in Newington adds a fenced option. The wider parklands are dog friendly on leash, though dogs are banned from the Brickpit Ring Walk, so plan the route around it. PLATE CAFE is another dog-friendly coffee stop in the precinct.
