Meraki coffee

Meraki Coffee is a corner cafe at 288 Unwins Bridge Road in Sydenham, and it has built a reputation as one of the more dog-welcoming spots in the Inner West. It pours Five Senses coffee alongside a specialty brunch menu, with footpath seating that suits owners bringing the dog along.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor footpath tables on a lead, where staff are known to keep water bowls topped up, and the takeaway window works well if you are just passing through on a walk. The footpath zone gets busy at peak brunch hours, so a calm, well-socialised dog will settle best.

The vibe

The menu runs from batch brew and cold brew to corn fritters, the mushroom katsu toastie and the popular bacon and egg roll, with house-baked muffins for the cabinet. Doors open from 6:30am daily, closing at 3pm, with Sundays from 6:45am.

It is a relaxed, local room, and planes pass overhead on the flight path, which barely registers with most regulars but can bother noise-sensitive dogs on their first visit.

Pepsi: grab the footpath table before the brunch rush, order the egg sambo, and let the water bowl service do its thing. Planes overhead are just part of the soundtrack.

Getting there and parking

The cafe is a short walk from Sydenham Station, which makes it easy to pair with a park visit, and street parking on Unwins Bridge Road and the side streets is limited, so check posted time limits.

Sydenham Green Fenced Dog Park is close enough to pair with the coffee run, and the Cooks River Short Loop at Tempe adds a longer walk by the water.
