Jimmy’s Coffee Suffolk Park

Jimmy's Coffee is an old caravan set up at 15 Clifford Street in Suffolk Park, surrounded by grass and shade rather than shopfronts. Being entirely outdoors makes it one of the easiest coffee stops in the Byron Shire with a dog: there is no indoor room, no door to negotiate, and the regulars' dogs are as much a fixture as the van itself. It is a short stroll from the Tallow Beach access points, which shapes most visits.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome by default at the outdoor tables and along the footpath beside the van. Water bowls are usually out, though on a busy morning bring your own to be sure. The setting is relaxed enough for a settled dog to lie beside the table while you wait, and the crowd is morning walkers rather than a sit-down brunch rush.

Worth knowing

The menu is caravan-sized and done well: flat whites and cold brew lead the drinks, with toasted banana bread, organic sourdough crumpets, croissants, pain au chocolat and vegan smoothies in the cabinet. Hours run 6:30am to midday Monday to Friday and from 7am on weekends, so it is strictly a morning stop. Free street parking on Clifford Street and the surrounding roads is usually fine, with the main Suffolk Park shops a minute away.

Nearby with the dogs

Tallow Beach Dog Exercise Area is the draw: the off-lead stretch runs from Jarman Street south toward the Arakwal National Park boundary, where dogs can go off lead in the inter-tidal zone around the clock, keeping clear of the dunes and vegetation. Byron Shire rules are on lead everywhere else in public. For a second coffee stop in town, the Byron Bay Jimmy's Coffee van and Otherside Cafe with its open courtyard are both dog friendly.
