Sheena’s coffee kiosk

Sheena's coffee kiosk is a park van set up inside Rocks Riverside Park on Seventeen Mile Rocks Road, one of Brisbane's best-equipped riverfront parklands. It is the coffee stop built into a walk rather than a destination cafe: you order at the window and settle onto the lawns, shelters or picnic tables around it, dog by your side the whole time.

The dog setup

There is no formal outdoor dining area, which is exactly why it works for dogs. Water bowls are usually set out near the van, the open grass around the kiosk gives a waiting dog room to flop down, and the staff have a reputation for friendly, unhurried service even mid-queue. The whole park is on-leash under Brisbane City Council rules, so keep your dog on a lead under two metres, clear of the playgrounds and barbecue areas, and pack waste bags, bins are provided.

Worth knowing

Hours shift with the kiosk's Facebook page rather than a fixed roster: it is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, then trades from 7am to 7pm Wednesday to Friday, from 6:30am Saturdays and from 7am Sundays. The menu is park-kiosk fare done well: coffee, chai lattes, frappes and milkshakes, plus Cornish pasties, scotch eggs, pies, sandwiches and cold treats that suit a hot morning. Weekend mornings bring the biggest crowds through the park, so an early start or a weekday visit is calmer.

Getting there and a walk to pair

The kiosk address is 531 Seventeen Mile Rocks Road; the easiest parking is the main Rocks Riverside Park carpark off Counihan Road, then walk through the parklands. The riverfront path, landscaped gardens and wide lawns make an easy leashed loop before or after coffee.

Make a day of it
