Esperanca cafe

Esperanca is a small, well-liked breakfast and lunch cafe at 176B St Brigids Terrace, a couple of blocks back from the Scarborough beachfront. The socials tell you exactly where you stand: bring the pooch down with you. Dogs are welcome at the shaded footpath tables along the frontage, which makes this an easy coffee-and-breakfast stop on the way to or from the coast.

The dog setup

Dogs sit with you at the outdoor alfresco tables; inside is for people only. The footpath area is shaded, which matters in a Perth summer, and staff are accommodating with dogs. Water provision is not guaranteed to be out, so pack your own bowl. The frontage is a residential street rather than a main road, so it is a reasonably calm place for a dog who is still learning cafe manners.

The vibe and the food

The menu is a proper breakfast and lunch lineup rather than a pastry cabinet, with well-rated coffee, fresh juices, eggs Benedict-style plates and a strong vegetarian and vegan range. It runs Tuesday to Friday from 6:30am to 3:30pm and weekends from 7am to 3pm, closing Mondays. Weekend breakfast is the busy service, so early is better if your dog prefers quiet.

Max: Closed Mondays. Plan the beach walk for Tuesday and let this be the recovery stop afterwards.

Getting there and parking

St Brigids Terrace runs parallel to the coast a short walk inland from Scarborough Beach, with street parking out the front and along the surrounding streets. It can get tight at weekend breakfast times, but the beach car parks are close enough to walk from.

While you're out there

The footpath down toward the coast brings you to the Scarborough foreshore for an on-lead stroll, and Peasholm Dog Beach is the off-lead run a short drive north. If your dog needs a fenced run first, the Abbett Park Reserve Fenced Dog Park is nearby. Lady Latte and Grace St Cafe are the other dog-friendly Scarborough stops worth knowing.
