Simmos Ice Creamery is a big, family-friendly ice cream farm on Commonage Road in Quindalup, a few minutes outside Dunsborough. It is worth the detour for the ice cream, but dogs cannot follow you into the tasting room or the animal park, so plan this as a stop where someone waits outside with the lead.

Dog setup. Dogs are not permitted inside the dining area, the playground, or the animal enclosures, since the farm runs a working animal park with free-roaming stock and lots of small children. The car park and the grassed verge outside the paid-entry gate are the workable options: tie up securely or have one person mind the dog while the other queues for cones. Staff will bring out a water bowl if you ask.

Good to know. Simmos makes its ice cream on site and runs to more than fifty flavours, including dairy-free and gluten-free sorbets. It is a popular stop, so the outdoor tables and car park fill on warm weekends. Certified assistance dogs are the exception to the no-pets rule and can go anywhere on site.

Getting there. 161 Commonage Road, Quindalup, about five to ten minutes from central Dunsborough. Parking is free and unpaved, with plenty of space outside of peak weekend hours.

This one is a car park stop, not a sit-down visit. Bring a shade option and water for the wait if you are minding the dog while someone else buys the cones.

When to go. Weekday mornings are quietest and the verge parking is easiest to find. On hot afternoons the car park has little shade, so keep any wait short and bring your own water bowl as backup.
