Blak Cede Gunyah

Blak Cede Gunyah is an Indigenous-led cafe and shop at 39A Kinghorne Street in central Nowra, run by Waminda as a social and cultural enterprise led by Aboriginal women. The menu is built around native Australian ingredients, much of it grown in their own Kareela Ngura community permaculture garden, and it has pulled in one of the strongest local followings on the South Coast.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the street-front outdoor tables, which is the spot to take on a fine day. Staff are known for accommodating travelling dogs, and water is available on request, though a portable bowl takes the guesswork out on busy mornings. The cafe also lists step-free outdoor access and caters to accessibility needs, so the street-side setup works for strollers and mobility aids too. Keep your dog settled and leashed beside the table; the shop side is for browsing humans and their retail line.

Worth knowing

This is as much a cultural stop as a feed. The menu leans into bush foods and local produce: wattleseed eggs benny is the signature order, alongside banana bread, fish cakes, scones and native relishes. It is a community-focused space with dine-in and takeaway, six days a week from 7am to 3pm, closed Sundays. The retail shelf of native products makes for a good takeaway from the visit itself.

Getting there and parking

Kinghorne Street is one of Nowra's main cafe strips, a couple of blocks off the Princes Highway through-town route. Street parking runs along Kinghorne and the surrounding blocks and fills during the mid-morning rush, with public car parks a short walk away. The town centre is flat and easy to wander with a leashed dog.
