Maison

Maison is a compact espresso bar on Church Street in North Parramatta, pouring Pablo & Rusty's coffee and turning out stacked deli sandwiches and the iced drinks the suburb keeps photographing, strawberry matcha included. Dogs are welcome at the pavement seating out front, which makes it a practical coffee stop on the way to or from the lake.

It is a small shop with a narrow frontage, so tables with room for a dog are limited; weekday mornings are the comfortable window, and staff are relaxed about dogs at the front tables. There is no dog menu or water bowl ritual to report, so carry water in warm weather, and if the front strip is full it is worth asking staff before waiting, since the footpath is the only dog-friendly option here.

The vibe and the menu

Expect specialty coffee, matcha and seasonal iced specials, plus sandwiches built tall on sourdough, the truffle mushroom melt, brekkie rolls and a pastry shelf. Hours run 6am to 4pm weekdays and 6am to 2pm weekends. It opens early, which suits dog walkers doing the cool-hours circuit before the pavement heats up.

Getting there and parking

Maison sits on Church Street in the North Parramatta shops pocket, with street parking on the surrounding blocks and the light rail a short walk away. For the dog leg of the morning, the fenced run at Dan Mahoney Reserve is the suburb's off-lead option, the Lake Parramatta Reserve circuit is on-lead bushland walking, and The Container is the other local cafe that takes dogs outdoors.
