Floozy Coffee

Floozy Coffee is a boutique micro-roastery at 398 King Street, Newcastle West, and one of the more serious coffee stops in the city: ethically sourced beans roasted on site, rotating single-origin pour-overs and a reputation for excellent espresso. The footpath-style outdoor seating out front welcomes dogs, which makes it a natural coffee-run stop on the way to the foreshore.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating, a compact strip of tables along the street with a mix of sun and shade through the morning. It is footpath-adjacent, so keep your dog on lead and close to the table while pedestrians and prams pass. Staff are warm about dogs and will usually bring a water bowl if you ask, but carrying your own is safer on quieter mornings.

The menu

The coffee is the headline: specialty espresso, filter brews that rotate with the single-origin lineup, and well-regarded oat milk flat whites. Food is short and good, with the halloumi and avocado toast the order most people talk about, plus toasties, house-made cookies and a rotating bake selection. Bags of freshly roasted beans are for sale at the counter.

Worth knowing

Hours run 7am to 2pm Monday to Friday, 7am to noon Saturday, closed Sunday, so it is a morning-and-lunch operation. Street parking on King Street and the side streets is metered, and the cafe is an easy walk from the Newcastle CBD.

Close by with the dogs

The foreshore is a few blocks east for an on-leash waterfront walk, and the leash-free top of King Edward Park gives a proper off-lead stretch above the coast. Sherwood Coffee on Parry Street is the other specialty stop nearby, and Flick Cafe is another local option with the dog.
