Leashed dogs are welcome in the alfresco seating beside the bay, and local guides and visitor reviews report water bowls set out outside, so you rarely need to carry your own. Ask for one of the outdoor tables, settle your dog away from the through-traffic between tables, and settle in. The indoor dining room is a different story, so this is a fair-weather and alfresco-only stop for dogs.

The vibe

The menu runs broader than the average cafe: eggs benedict and crepes cover the brunch classics, while seafood risotto and a falafel bowl push it towards proper lunch territory. Balcony seating fills early on weekends because the water view is the whole point, and the weekday 7am opening makes it an easy stop after a walk along the foreshore. Service runs to 4pm daily.

Getting there is straightforward: Hayes Street runs off the Military Road side of Neutral Bay and the Hayes Street wharf is close by if you arrive by ferry, which turns the trip into a harbour outing in itself. Street parking around the bay end is metered and busy on weekends, so the ferry or a walk down from Military Road is often the smoother play. Dogs on leads handle the slope and footpaths without drama.

There is more dog-friendly ground around Hayes Street than most harbour suburbs manage.
