Wattle Bee Next

Wattle Bee Next is a cafe, gift shop and community hub rolled into one at 45 Morgan Street, the main drag of Mount Morgan. It has been the town's third space since 2005, and for dog owners driving out from Rockhampton it works as the coffee stop where a well mannered dog is part of the furniture.

The dog setup

Leashed dogs are welcome here, and staff have built a reputation for making owners and their dogs feel like regulars from the first visit. The outdoor seating is the simple option with a dog in tow. The catch is that this doubles as a retail space, with gifts, toys and accessories displayed at nose height, so keep your dog on a short lead and close to your table rather than browsing the shelving.

Max: Short lead inside, and steer clear of the gift shelving. Stock sits right at nose level and one curious sniff is a purchase you did not plan.

The vibe

The coffee gets a strong local following, along with Prana Chai and matcha. The cabinet rotates through scones, muffins, carrot cake and toasties, and the kitchen turns out egg and bacon muffins and breaky wraps for the early crew, with doors opening at 6am on weekdays. A produce swap table near the counter gives the place its community feel. Hours shift by day and weekends close early at midday, with Thursdays shut entirely, so check before you make the drive out.

Getting there and parking

You will find it on Morgan Street opposite the Tree Sculpture and the Running of the Cutter statue, hard to miss in a town this size. Free street parking sits directly in front and along the surrounding block, so there is no circling with a dog watching from the back seat.

Close by with the dogs

Mount Morgan itself rewards a wander, with the heritage walk starting a couple of streets away. If you are heading back towards the coast, Blank Cheque Trading Co. in Rockhampton and Cousins On William both make easy dog friendly stops on the way through.
