Mount Morgan Silver Wattle Caravan Park

Mount Morgan Silver Wattle Caravan Park sits on the Burnett Highway at Hamilton Creek, just outside the historic gold-mining town of Mount Morgan and about half an hour's drive south of Rockhampton. It is a working caravan park in every sense, with cabins, ranch-style motel units, budget ensuite rooms and a spread of powered and unpowered sites, and it is one of the rare parks where dogs and cats are welcome across the whole range of accommodation rather than camping only.

The park takes dogs and cats overnight, capped at two pets per stay, and says it welcomes pets of all shapes and sizes with no weight limit. Pet-friendly options span cabins, motel rooms and sites, so whether you tow, tent or take a room, your dog can come along. Expect a pet charge on top of your nightly rate and ask about any cabin conditions when you book, because the finer restrictions are best confirmed with management directly rather than assumed. One detail dog owners will appreciate: there is a dedicated dog wash on site, which makes light work of a dusty travelling hound.

On the ground, dogs should stay on leash around the park, as is standard practice. Bush camping areas sit away from the main slab sites and some come with their own fire pits, which gives a dog a bit more breathing room than a packed row of van bays.

Guests consistently call out the camp kitchen, camp fire, roomy sites and unusually large showers, and the free eggs laid on site have become something of a signature. The park also runs a stay-seven-pay-six deal on weekly bookings. None of it is dog specific, but it all makes a base camp for exploring Mount Morgan's mine tours and heritage streets a comfortable one.
