Yeppen Lagoon Walk

The Yeppen Lagoon path runs along the water at The Range in Rockhampton, linking Blackall Street to the Botanic Gardens, and it is a birdwatcher's walk as much as a dog walk.

Lead rules

Rockhampton Regional Council requires dogs on lead at all times here.

Dogs are not allowed inside the formal inner precincts of the Botanic Gardens, so keep to the outer paths and turn back before the gardens proper.

The walk

It is a paved concrete shared path used by walkers, cyclists and scooters. Along it you get wetland views, native trees on the banks and plenty of waterbirds.

The trees give moderate to good shade on the outer edge of the lagoon.

Getting started

Street parking near the Blackall Street end is the easiest start, and that is also where the bins are. They thin out along the bank, and water is limited, so bring a bowl and a bottle.

Max: Bikes and scooters share this path. Keep the lead short and your dog on your side.

Make a day of it

Finish with a coffee in town at Hummingbird Cafe or Coffee Society Rockhampton.

Early mornings suit it, when the birds are busy and the concrete is still cool.
