Via Battisti is a busy Italian-style cafe on Arcadia Avenue, a short walk up from Mount Martha beach. It is a genuine local favourite for dogs, with the front footpath tables set up for people-watching and a coffee while your dog settles at your feet.

Staff are used to regulars bringing their dogs and will usually bring out a water bowl, though it is worth a quick ask on a busy morning. The seating is open-air and on the path, so keep your lead short when foot traffic picks up.

Good to know. The kitchen is known for handcrafted paninis and focaccias, with coffee from Square One roasters. It runs daily from 7am to 3pm and is licensed from 11am. Mornings are the calmest time to land a footpath table.

Getting there. On-street parking is available along the Esplanade and Arcadia Avenue, but it fills fast on weekends and warm days. Arrive early to get both a table and a park.
