Rival Brothers Mount Barker

Rival Brothers is a family-owned specialty coffee roaster and cafe at 6 Dutton Road, Mount Barker, in the central retail precinct. It is genuinely set up for dogs: the cafe keeps water bowls and treats on hand for visiting pups, and there is roomy outdoor seating.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor and footpath tables, with plenty of spacious outdoor seating to settle a dog beside your chair. Water bowls and treats are provided, so this is an easy one to rock up to without packing much.

Good to know. The coffee is roasted in-house, including their 953 Blend, with a focus on organic and sustainable beans. The kitchen runs an all-day breakfast and lunch menu until 2pm, with wraps and toasties from the fridge afterwards, plus smoothies, milkshakes and local SA drinks. Open Monday to Saturday 8am to 4pm and Sunday 8am to 3pm. No bookings needed.

Getting there. Street parking is available nearby, and the cafe sits close to central Mount Barker's shops, so it slots easily into a walking errand.

Nearby with the dogs. Keith Stephenson Park is a short walk or drive for a run on the grass, and the Mount Barker Summit is a few minutes out for a tree-lined bushwalk.

When to go. An off-peak weekday gets you the pick of the shaded outdoor tables before the morning coffee rush.
