Via Boffe

Via Boffe is an Italian-style coffee bar in the middle of the Main Street shopping strip in Mornington, pouring proper espresso and stacking a counter with baguettes, almond croissants and panini. The footpath tables out front are the reason dog owners come: leashed dogs settle beside you while you drink, on one of the Peninsula's busiest people-watching corners.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the street-side tables out front, on lead, and the staff are used to locals arriving with dogs in tow. Water is usually available or easy to request. The coffee bar itself is compact, so your dog stays on the footpath rather than ducking inside, which suits a calm dog that is happy to lie under a table while Main Street rolls past.

The vibe

It is small, social and central: espresso and fresh sandwiches through the day, with locals drifting back for a late-afternoon drink. Opening hours run from 7am (8am Sundays) to early or mid afternoon, so it is a morning-and-lunch stop rather than a dinner destination. Weekend mornings get busy, which is great for confident dogs and less so for nervous ones.

Getting there and parking

Street parking runs along Main Street but turns over slowly at peak times; the side streets and off-street bays are easier when you are walking a dog in. Mornington Park and the foreshore are a short walk away for a pre-coffee leg-stretch.

While you're out there

Make it a circuit: Royal Beach Dog Off Leash Area is a short way south for a sand run, and Civic Reserve Fenced Dog Park is the secure option further north. If the footpath is full, Commonfolk Mornington is the local coffee alternative.
