Suburbia Deli - Mordialloc

Suburbia Deli works out of 95 White Street, Mordialloc, a few streets back from the beach end of town, doing Italian-style panini, coffee, cheese and pantry goods for a loyal local crowd. It goes further than most delis for dogs: there are spots out the front to tie up or settle your dog while you order, water on hand, and staff who have been known to slip visiting dogs a bit of roast chicken.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor area, with room to tie up or lie down while you order at the counter; inside is food prep and people only. The takeaway panini format makes this an easy grab-and-walk stop if your dog is restless, but regulars treat the front area as a proper sit-and-chat space, and the staff's affection for dogs comes up repeatedly in local feedback. Water is provided.

The panini

The panini run on a numbered board, roughly $14 to $18: number one is mortadella with stracciatella, number two is honey mustard chicken, the Godfather stacks the classic deli meats, and there is a vegetarian route via roast pumpkin, hummus and crushed walnuts. Gluten-free bread is available on request. Coffee, fresh bread and deli goods round it out. Hours are Wednesday to Friday 8am to 3pm and weekends 8am to 2pm, closed Monday and Tuesday.

Getting there and parking

White Street has free kerbside parking along it and on the side streets, and the deli is an easy walk from the Mordialloc activity centre. Note the Monday and Tuesday closure before planning a dog walk around a visit.

While you are out there

Mordialloc and Mentone beaches are close, with dog access signposted by time and season, and the Kevin Hayes Dog Park and the Reg Marlow Reserve Fenced Dog Park both give your dog a proper off-lead run nearby. The Mordi Deli Cafe Panini Bar on Main Street is the other panini option in town.
