The dog setup

Water bowls are commonly put out for passing dogs given the busy Glebe Road frontage, though bringing your own bowl removes any doubt. The tables sit close to traffic, so park your dog on the inside and keep the lead short when a bus or truck goes past.

The vibe

The focus is carefully roasted specialty coffee, with well-rated toasties, pastries and a solid brunch menu. It gets busy through the morning, and the kerbside setup suits a coffee stop on a neighbourhood loop rather than a long sit-down, which is fine, because Merewether has better places to linger with a dog than a footpath.

It is at 140 Glebe Road, with free street parking on Glebe Road and the surrounding residential streets, though spots tighten near the Prince of Wales Hotel. A weekday mid-morning visit gets you the calmest footpath table, before the lunch trade picks up along the strip.

Merewether Beach and the ocean baths are a short walk away, and the Bathers Way to Newcastle coastal path is close for a proper leg-stretch beforehand.
